'Absolutely blown away': FC United manager Marginson praises 'magnificent' support

FC United of Manchester’s manager has thanked the club’s fans for their support as his team look to put last week’s trouncing away at Harrogate behind them.

The Rebels have endured a difficult inaugural season at Broadhurst Park as they adapt to the higher standard of the Vanarama National League North and suffered their heaviest defeat of the season last week, losing 5-0 to promotion-chasing Harrogate Town.

The fixture list doesn’t get any easier this week when third-placed North Ferriby United come to town on Saturday, but manager Karl Marginson is urging fans to keep up their support.

“I would like to go on record and say that both the management and the players were absolutely blown away by the support at Harrogate,” he wrote in his programme notes ahead of the game.

“I’m not sure there is any other club in the world who would be beaten 5-0 away from home, and the travelling support are cheering as loud at the end as they were at the start.”

Marginson revealed that the players were ‘disappointed and frustrated’ with their performance and that a ‘frank discussion’ took place in the dressing room after the defeat.

FC United find themselves only four points clear of the relegation zone with 12 games to play, but Marginson insisted that he is happy with the direction his team are taking.

“We’re all aware that things need to improve and that there is still plenty of work to be done to ensure our safety,” he said.

“I’m happy with the work rate of the players. We just need to start channeling that in a more productive way.

“Organisation and communication are key and I have been stressing that in training this week.

"Saturday’s game, as they all are from now to the end of the season, is a big one.

"Please keep up that magnificent support, and we will do our best to produce the results that it deserves."
