'Out of control' dogs destroyed after Manchester police discover girl, 15, dead at Atherton home

A teenage girl was found dead today at a house in Atherton – surrounded by a number of ‘out of control’ dogs.

Officers were alerted to the house on Chaucer Grove shortly after 2pm following a report of a teenage girl being seen unconscious.

They were confronted by around five dogs that were aggressive and out of control – four of which have now been humanely destroyed.

A fifth dog that was securely contained throughout the incident has not been destroyed.

Superintendent Mark Kenny said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family of the girl who has tragically lost her life.

"I understand this is an extremely distressing incident for all concerned, including the community, and we will work hard to establish the full circumstances that lead to this tragedy.”

There is now an increased police presence across the area which Superintendent Kenny says will last throughout the evening, while investigations continue and residents’ concerns are addressed.

"It would be too early for us to speculate about what has happened, and further information will be released when it becomes available,” he said.
