Over a period of five years, results have shown The Northern Quarter received the highest amount of noise complaints in 2019.
Manchester City Council has revealed that the Northern Quarter received 334 noise complaints last year. That figure is more than double the 151 that was reported in 2015.

The rise in complaints can be pinpointed to both construction & domestic types of noise which resulted in 99 and 93 complaints respectively for last year. Commercial types of noise also rose up to 68, whilst in 2018, the number of complaints only reached 38.
The role of licensed premises clearly tried to appease their residents which saw the premises receive a drop in noise complaints. 48 complaints is a drop in comparison to 2018’s 69 & 2016’s 79 complaints.
With construction & domestic noise complaints continuing to grow each year, the council has to act swiftly to ensure that 2020 sees a drop in complaints.
However, during an unforeseen time of foreseeable self-isolation, this year could actually see a drop in complaints in The Northern Quarter, without any specific council intervention.
