Women in critical condition after suffering ‘severe’ head injuries in Cheetham burglary

A woman has been left in critical condition after sustaining ‘life threatening injuries’ after being assaulted by three men during a burglary.

A call was made to police at 11:15pm on Monday April 25, reporting that the men had broken into the woman’s house on St Marks Lane, Cheetham, before assaulting her and stealing several items.

The men then fled the scene in a small vehicle, leaving the woman, who has not been named, with serious head injuries.

Police are calling for anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious or heard anything to come forward as a matter of urgency.

Detective Inspector Carl Gilbert of Greater Manchester Police said: “First and foremost I would like to say that our thoughts are with this woman who remains in hospital in a critical condition after sustaining life threatening injuries.

“Given the timing of the incident, people who live in the area may have noticed something suspicious or heard something out of the ordinary which may be able to assist us with our enquiries.”

A number of road closures will be put in place this morning to allow officers to carry out enquiries at the scene.

Anybody with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2436 of 25/04/16, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
