Wigan joggers to paint the rainbow with town’s first ever charity Colour Run

Wigan runners are set to paint the town red – and yellow and pink and green – as the area’s first ever Colour Run gears up to make a splash.

Encouraged to wear white, participants are invited to get covered head to toe in powder paint whilst raising funds which will help support the local community.

The event, which is a joint effort from Wigan and Leigh Hospice and Wigan Warriors Community Foundation, is set to take place at Robin Park on September 14.

Maxine Armstrong, Fundraising and Lottery Manager for Wigan and Leigh Hospice, said: “We are always looking for new ways to fundraise.

“The Colour Run is about having some fun and celebrating a life in colour.”

The money raised will be split between Wigan Warriors Community Foundation and Wigan and Leigh Hospice, with 92p of every £1 donated to the hospice spent on patients.

Maxine said the hospice aiming to make a real difference to lives in both the hospice building and surrounding community.

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation also makes its mark, using funds to continue delivering their community sports programmes, which use sport to make a difference to people’s lives.

The Colour Run participants are invited to run, jog or walk around the 5km track, and will be provided with a white t-shirt to ensure the colour stands out.

Maxine told MM: “Participants will pass colour stations along the route where they have the opportunity to throw colour at each other.”

“As a family event, I’m sure children will enjoy throwing paint at Mum and Dad.”

The powdered paint itself is bio-degradable and eco-friendly, as well as washable, however runners are advised to wear something they don’t mind getting colour-covered.

Runners will also receive a goody bag for taking part in the first charity run of its kind to come to Wigan.
