Driver left shocked after window hit with golf club in Blackley carjacking attempt

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted carjacking with a golf club in Blackley.

The incident took place at around 5.30am last Tuesday (August 18) when a BMW 5 series was surrounded by a group while stopped at traffic lights at the junction of Cecil Road and Hill Lane.

The four men tried to open the car doors, while one of them attempted to break a window.

Police Constable Tracey Martin said: “The victim believes the men were trying to get into the car to steal it and the victim was understandably shocked when his window was hit with a golf club.

“Thankfully he was able to drive off unscathed.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or believe they may have been a victim themselves, to contact police as soon as possible.”

The driver was able to drive off without injury, but there was damage to the vehicle.

Descriptions are a little vague but one of the offenders is described as wearing an Adidas tracksuit.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 3015 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
