Manuel Pellegrini hopes Manchester City freight train won’t get stopped in its tracks against Hull City

Manuel Pellegrini is hoping to carry his side’s momentum into Saturday’s Premiership clash with Hull City.

Pellegrini was keen to capitalise on the 7-0 thrashing of Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup earlier this week with another emphatic victory.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference at Carrington, the 61-year-old called for his reinvigorated side to repeat their victory at the KC Stadium last season.

“It is always important to win in the way we did on Wednesday and I hope this can continue in the future, especially tomorrow against Hull because in the Premier League, we cannot drop many points,” he said.

In last year’s encounter, City lost their captain to a straight red card after he fouled Nikica Jelavic, but managed to carve out a two-goal victory thanks to goals from Silva and Edin Dzeko.

“Hull is a difficult team to play away. Last year, it was not one of our best games because Vincent Kompany was sent off in the first ten minutes but we played really well and we won,” he said.

The Chilean manager was also once again questioned about the long-term future of loanee Frank Lampard, but refused to be drawn.

“He will stay with us here until his deal finishes in January,” he said. “We will see after that what we are going to do. It is not a problem we have to analyse at this moment.

“We are in September and we still have October, November and December – three long months he will continue with us,” he added.

Despite the return of Sergio Aguero and David Silva, City will still be without several key players when the cross the Pennines.

“We continue with Jovetic and Fernando out of the team,” Pellegrini revealed.

“Both of them will be ready next week but Nasri also has a groin problem.”
