‘Loving brother’ set upon by four thugs and killed in Halloween Longsight stabbing – family make heartfelt tribute

By Danielle Wainwright

The family of a man who was killed after being set upon by four men and stabbed in Longsight on Halloween have paid tribute to their ‘funny and great brother’.

Huner Anwar Ali, 24, died from stab wounds in hospital after he became involved in an altercation with four men at around 12.40am on Parry Road.

Huner was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries. A second man, 23, was also taken to hospital for stab wounds but he was later released.

His brother and sister-in-law said: “He was a loving brother, son, brother-in-law and a great uncle who will be truly deeply missed. He was a pleasure to be around and many people have many memories.

“He will never be forgotten, he will always live on within our hearts. We are truly sorry to have lost such a great person. He was a funny person and he would always have a smile on his face.

“He was always up for a laugh and being a big kid. Huner was settled in Manchester and made new friends at the Manchester Academy and he had his whole life ahead of him, but fate decided something else.”

Huner had recently settled in the UK from Iraq and made friends with a group of men within the Iraqi community. It is believed that Huner and his friends may have fallen out with these men who may be the men responsible for his death.

They have connections in the Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire area.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Crewe said: “It is clear from the touching words Huner’s family have written that he was a well-loved young man with a bright future.

“Sadly, his family will never get to see him grow up because he was tragically stabbed to death that night in Longsight.

“It is very important for the family’s peace of mind that we trace these four men and bring them to justice, so I would ask people to listen to the words of Huner’s family and please, if you know something, do the right thing and call us.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 1722 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
