The Courteeners show Concrete Love with Heaton Park gig… but will Manchester see it in ticket sales?

Tickets to The Courteeners homecoming gig at Heaton Park next summer are set to go on sale tomorrow morning… though fans are already casting doubts on whether the band can sell-out the iconic venue.

The Not Nineteen Forever singers will be the first band to headline the park since the legendary Stone Roses three night reunion run and the gig on June 5 2015 will be their biggest show to date.

However the Middleton rockers are only putting 20,000 tickets up for sale – a fraction of the 75,000 capacity Heaton Park.

Frontman Liam Fray took to Twitter to announce the news earlier this week and a flood of excited fan reactions closely followed.

However, not all fans thought the indie bands choice of gig location was wise and one user, Rhys Evans, wrote: “Courteeners won’t sell half of Heaton Park.”

Formed in 2006, the indie rock band – consisting of Liam Fray, Michael Campbell, Daniel Moores and Mark Joseph – played their first gig at the Manchester Roadhouse and became regulars on the gigging circuit, rallying up an army of fans along the way.

After the release of their debut album, St Jude, which included tracks Cavorting and Acrylic, the band received wide-spread praise from critics including Smiths legend, Morrissey.

The Charming Man singer mentioned his love for the Middleton rockers after seeing them play live in Camden and gave their singles airplay on his American radio show.

He heaped praise on the band saying that every song was ‘very strong’ and ‘full of hooks and full of dynamics’ and tipped them for success across the pond.

Other studio albums have included Falcon, Anna and Concrete Love – the latter was released in August 2014 and is the bands highest charting album to date.

The band have recently finished their 16-date UK tour in support of their fourth album and a string of international festival shows which included live performances at Reading, Leeds and Benicassim festivals.

The 2015 homecoming summer show will be The Courteeners first gig in Manchester since they played two huge shows at the Catlefield Bowl in July 2013, which sold out all 16,000 tickets in just one day.

Tickets to the Heaton Park gig are due to go on sale tomorrow at 9am (Friday November 28) and cost £29.50.  For more information, click here
