I’ll bust a cap in you: ‘Gun-toting’ teens grab terrified Oldham woman by hair during late night betting shop raid

By Tim Hyde

A pair of armed thugs told a terrified Oldham bookmaker they would ‘bust a cap’ in her before dragging her by the hair in a late-night robbery.

The gun-toting teens burst into Ladbrokes on Albion Street around 10pm last night as it closed for the evening.

The victim was grabbed by the hair, one of whom was wielding a replica gun, and forced to empty all the cash from the till.

One of the youths even told her ‘I’ll bust a cap in you’.

The woman handed over a bag of cash and the teens fled the scene.

Chief Superintendent Catherine Hankinson of Greater Manchester Police said: “Two men assaulted and threatened a woman at gunpoint during what must have been an extremely terrifying robbery last night.

“Following this incident we deployed specialist firearms officers to the area and with the aid of CCTV operators swiftly arrested two men and recovered some cash.”

Local council workers tracked down two individuals matching the description of the pair using CCTV footage.

After a short chase, armed officers arrested two teenagers, aged 19 and 17, on suspicion of robbery.

A replica firearm and a bag containing cash was recovered.

Superintendent Hankinson praised the efforts that helped apprehend the pair so swiftly.

“To arrest two suspected armed robbers so quickly after the incident is an excellent result and credit must go to everyone involved for their professionalism, dedication and determination,” she said.

“It also highlights the obvious benefits of having such a good network of CCTV cameras and operators in the area and shows what can be achieved by working so closely with our partner agencies.”
