Stone Roses’ Ian Brown ‘set masturbation homework by weatherman Fred Talbot’

Ian Brown has told a court how Fred Talbot set masturbation practice as homework to pupils during his teaching years at Altrincham Grammar school.

TV weatherman Talbot, 65, worked as a biology teacher at the school where Brown, 51, attended.

A jury at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, were told by the singer that he and other pupils in his class were shown gay porn in one of their biology classes.

According to the Stone Roses front man, who was dressed in a blue coat, an open-necked shirt and jeans, he remembers ‘in particularly’ Talbot allegedly making his pupils, who are thought to have been 11 at the time, watch a three minute clip of a man masturbating on a bed.

Ian Brown described how the Granada Reports weatherman would approach the boys who had put their hands up because they had ‘succeeded in their homework’, and go up to the ones with ‘bum fluff on their lips’, ‘murmuring’ in their ears.

When challenged by Talbot’s defence lawyers who suggested that the discussion of masturbation was part of his teaching role as a biology teacher, Brown was adamant that he believed Fred Talbot’s actions were inappropriate.

Brown also mentioned that he thought that all the teachers at the school were ‘violent’ however Talbot was not.

Talbot, of Greater Manchester, pleaded not guilty in March to 10 counts of indecent assault and one count of serious sexual assault on five boys between October 1968 and August 1983 while working at the grammar school.
