Nine young people responsible for a baying mob in McDonald's, Wigan were arrested today.

A mob of around 100 young people descended on a McDonald's restaurant on Standishgate at 10.30pm on April 10 and verbally abused staff, stole food and threw rubbish.

Nine young people have today been arrested for public order offences and one for burglary.

Sergeant Nicola Williams from Wigan Neighborhood Policing Team said: “The behavior of those responsible was disgraceful, a baying mob who subject staff working in McDonald's to abuse of an indecent nature, causing them to fear for their personal safety.”

One 17 year-old was given a fixed penalty notice, and three people aged between 16 and 17 have been bailed until May 3.

Five young people between the age of 14 and 17 years old have received a reprimand.

Sergeant Williams said: “This behavior will not be tolerated by the people of Wigan or the Police; together we have brought these offenders to justice.”
