Manchester United 'must beat the best' to win trophies, insists Sir Alex as Reds face nightmare Chelsea clash

To be the best you have to beat the best, insists Sir Alex Ferguson after Manchester United were handed a tough draw in the Capital One Cup next round.

Fergie will take his men to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the fourth round – a place in the quarter finals awaits to victors – but the Scot is confident that United can prevail.

The Premier League’s top two teams will face each other just two or three days after meeting in the league at Chelsea, and Sir Alex is adamant he will try to rally his players to snatch a double win.

"We want to progress as far as we can and will do our best to try and do that," Sir Alex told Sky Sports. "Winning is always important at this club."

Tom Cleverley and Anderson bagged for the Reds in their 2-1 victory over Newcastle yesterday – Papiss Cisse got his first club for the Magpies this season.

And the England midfielder echoed his managers calls for fighting against the best teams in order to lift trophies.

"You've got to beat the best teams to win the cup," he said.

"Obviously we would have preferred a home match because you don't want to travel too much in a busy fixture list but whoever plays for us will go down there to Chelsea and do their stuff."

Roberto Martinez’s men were rewarded with a clash against the only League Two side left in the draw as Wigan host Bradford City.
