Manchester United fox-in-the-box Javier Hernandez’s goalscoring instincts lauded by Jonny Evans

By Marios Papaloizou

Manchester United’s fox-in-the-box Javier Hernandez’s magic touch in front of goal has been praised by defender Jonny Evans after the Mexican netted the winner against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Despite having limited opportunities so far under untied boss David Moyes, the ‘Little Pea’ showed no signs of rust as he improvised a contorted finish against the Anfield club.

Evans has now claimed that the striker has an unparalleled instinct for goal that he sees during the build up to games.

“We see it every day in training,” he said.

“You always have to be aware of him. He only takes a yard to get a goal.

“That is the type of lad he is. Against Stoke a couple of years ago he scored a goal with the back of his head.

“He loves scoring goals.”

United’s mid-week win ensured that the Reds progressed to the next stage of the Capital One cup where they will meet Norwich.

A win against Liverpool, however, may not be enough to extinguish the memory of Sunday’s derby to defeat to Manchester City.

Despite the defeat Evans claimed that the squad were honest in their assessment of what happened and did not let it affect them.

“I have been on the training ground where the atmosphere has been worse than it was when we came in the day after the game,” he said.

“We had no complaints at the weekend.

“Everyone was honest in their assessment that we didn’t apply ourselves the way we should have.

“It is hard for the fans, the players and the manager as well. We just had to move on from it quickly.”
