‘No point dominating in defeat’: Flitcroft issues Bury warning before Lions Den trip

Bury manager David Flitcroft has called on his side to convert dominance in games into positive results ahead of a trip to Milwall.

The Shakers, who have not won away in the league since October, face a tough encounter at the Den on Saturday.

Bury could be overtaken by the Lions, after falling out of the play-off places following a 2-1 defeat in midweek against Scunthorpe.

Despite dominating in large parts, Bury slumped to defeat as the Iron scored from the penalty spot and snatched the game with a last minute free kick from midfielder Luke Williams.

Following the disappointing result, as his side spurned several chances, Flitcroft has urged his side to manage games better and capitalise on their supremacy.

“That’s the most chances we’ve created at home, even more than the 4-0 against Wigan [in the FA Cup],” he said.

“I’ve got to look at the structure [of the team] and once we were back in it we should have made sure we didn’t lose the game.

“The team maybe went a little bit gung-ho [in search of a winner] with players a little bit wide and left us exposed.

“From every part of the pitch we looked threatening but there’s no good dominating in defeat as the fans pay a lot of money and I want to reward them with a win.

“We’ve got quality in this team to score goals and we’ve shown that this season, but there’s plenty of things to learn from it.”

Flitcroft once again singled out new loan signing Joe Dodoo for praise against Scunthorpe, as he followed up a promising debut last weekend against Burton.

With the forward expected to start on Saturday, the Bury boss has already contacted his parent club and Premier League leaders Leicester to extend the initial one-month deal.

“I think he is in a good place,” he said.

“We have got a good dressing room and I think at Carrington we have got a good environment, we have got good coaches, good people, good leaders and he is in and around some good people.

“I think Leicester recognise that and so hopefully that will have some bearing as we would certainly love to extend it because the fans have took to him and the players have.”

“What he has on the ball is magic and he plays with fantastic enthusiasm – he is a really great talent and I am glad we have got him.”
