Manchester City's Patrick Vieira claims referees give United home advantage

Manchester City’s Patrick Vieira is attacking city rivals Manchester United by claiming they receive preferential treatment from referees.

Following the Reds’ controversy at Old Trafford on Monday, where Fulham were denied a late penalty in their 1-0 defeat, the Blues’ development executive again criticised the Premier League leaders.

The former Arsenal captain told the BBC at Manchester’s Soccerex conference today that referees give United a home advantage.

"When United play at home they get some advantage that other teams don't get," Vieira said.

"I think when you go to United, Madrid, Barcelona, or Milan, when the referees referee these kind of games, it's always difficult to go against these kind of teams.

"This is the way it is.

"It's something the teams who are used to winning get all the time, so we need to win games so we have this advantage in the future."

City have seen United claw their way back to the top of the table over the past month, however Vieira claimed that City remain the best team and are deserved winners but is wary of the threat United pose.

"This is our moment.

"Since the start of the season we've been the best team and played the best football.

"I believe the club deserves it."

He added: "When you are first you have the advantage, [United] are favourites."
