Look who it is… Chancellor George Osborne chats to commuters at Manchester Piccadilly on visit to city

Chancellor George Osborne may not be the most popular member of the Government.

But the Tatton MP had his fair share of commuters wanting to chat when he was spotted at Manchester Piccadilly train station at lunchtime today.

Mr Osborne, in the city to make a speech at the Federation of Small Businesses Conference, was happy to answer any questions members of the public had to ask and many commuters were photographing and videoing him.

The Chancellor had earlier tweeted that he was: “On my way to Manchester. Am speaking at the #FSB National Conference about how budget supports small businesses.”

One attendee seemed as surprised as the commuters to see Mr Osborne on stage at Manchester Central.

While in Manchester, Mr Osborne also visited the Museum of Science and Industry to announce a new £800,000 investment to create a temporary exhibition facility on its historic site.

And he completed his whistlestop tour by visiting the building site of the £61m National Graphene Institute (NGI).
