Rochdale boss Keith Hill praised debutant Joe Bunney after he scored the winner against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday in the final game of the season at Spotland.

The 19-year-old‘s second half header proved the only goal of the game after Max Blanchard’s sending off for the visitors and gave the Dale a winning finish to their League Two campaign.

Hill felt the youngster’s impact was a sign of things to come and said while Bunney didn’t have the best of games in his 16-minute cameo, he was capable of making the difference for his side.

"Joe has talent and he will only get better," Hill said.

"It's his first taste of real men's football, he has great movement, good appetite and he knows where the goal is.

"He may have a bad game but he'll put the ball in the back of the net."

The result meant Hill finished with only five losses in his 18-game spell as manager and put Rochdale in 12th place after a topsy-turvy season.

Hill replaced former Accrington manager John Coleman in January but after his impressive run in charge, he signed a three-year deal last week.

The former Barnsley boss set about his rebuilding plans this week, with forwards Ashley Grimes and Terry Gornell leading the released list.
