Sergio Aguero ‘committed to Manchester City’ as one-year contract extension ends Real Madrid rumours

By Paddy von Behr

Sergio Aguero has followed up a new Manchester City contract with confirmation he is not interested in rumours linking him with Real Madrid.

The Argentine striker penned a one-year extension to his contract on Saturday, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2017.

And the 26-year-old re-assured supporters he is ignoring suggestions he may be heading back to Spain in the near future.

“No, those were just rumours,” Aguero told Goal. “I’m committed to Manchester City, it’s a great club. I’m happy to be part of a club that is growing so fast.

“I’m very happy to be at Manchester, it’s been two years now but hopefully we are going to do bigger things in the next few years.”

Aguero was the figurehead of City’s historic Premier League title triumph last season, scoring the dramatic late winner that ended their 44-year wait for a top-flight title.

However, this campaign has been disappointing in comparison, with the striker netting 17 times – well short of last year’s tally of 30.

However, the former Atletico Madrid man is already looking forward to putting this campaign behind him and potentially working with Manuel Pellegrini.

“You can’t win the title every year but we finished second, made the FA Cup final,” he added. “Hopefully next year we can titles again.

“There’s various rumours about it [Pellegrini] but we are going on holiday now. When we get back, whoever is the manager, we will be behind him and the club.”

The Malaga boss in widely expected to link up with City this summer and bring playmaker Isco with him to the Premier League.
