Stockport ace Liam Broady among wild cards for Aegon Manchester Trophy

Stockport’s Liam Broady has been awarded a main draw wild card for next week’s Aegon Manchester Trophy at the Northern Lawn Tennis Club in Didsbury along with three other British stars.

Brydan Klein, Ed Corrie and Dan Cox will also enter the main draw which commences on Tuesday June 2nd with qualifying commencing on Sunday.

Broady, who is currently ranked 176 in the world and won the boys doubles titles at Wimbledon in 2010 and at the Australian Open in 2012 , regularly trains at The Northern and is hoping for plenty of local support.

“I’m really excited to be playing at home in Manchester. The Northern is a great club with an important tennis history,” said the 21-year-old.

“It’s fantastic for world class tennis to be coming back to Manchester and I’ll be hoping for lots of local support.”

Klein, who won the Australian Open Boys Singles title in 2007, will also be hoping that the The Northern crowd can get behind him as despite being Australian, he switched nationalities in 2013 due to his mother being born in Manchester.

Broady and Klein will be joined by Corrie, ranked 234 in the world, and Cox, ranked 295, along with Davis Cup hero James Ward and tournament director Richard Joyner can’t wait to hear the local support as the home hopes face tough international talent.

He said: “We’re delighted to add four more British players to the field next week for local spectators to support, along with James Ward.

“It’s great to have home grown talent on show along side some of the best international players around.  We’re looking forward to a great event.”
