I just don’t know yet: Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs unsure of future managing or coaching career

By John McDougall

Despite being the most decorated player in English football history, Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is still unsure about going into management when he finally hangs up his boots.

The 39-year-old ‘Welsh Wizard’ signed a contract extension in March for the upcoming season, which will be David Moyes’ first in charge of the Red Devils.

And after taking the UEFA Pro License course in Turkey this summer, Giggs believes the experience brings back memories of learning in his early playing days.

“I don’t know whether I am going to be a coach or a manager, if I decide to go into coaching, but it is obviously exciting for me,” he told the Football Association’s website.

“I am sort of an intense person so when I am still playing I’m concentrating on that. But I have to start thinking about what I am going to do afterwards.

“I want to do well and I want to make a success of it like I did as a player. It will be like starting all over again, like being an apprentice again.

“It will be learning new things and making mistakes as you go along, just trying to better yourself as much as you can.”

The 13-time Premier League winner – as many league titles as Arsenal have – will next season be playing in his 24th campaign with champions United.

After spending his whole career under Sir Alex Ferguson, Giggs is eager to put what he has learnt to good use and is looking forward to working with his successor Moyes.

“Obviously, I’d be stupid not to pick up on the stuff I’ve learnt from Sir Alex. I have been playing for 20-odd years and it is a new chapter in my life,” he explained.

“I think it is a challenge and as a player you always want challenges. First and foremost, there are great players there and we have just won the league, so everything is in place for it to carry it on.”
