LEGO play! 10,000 bricks donated to Manchester’s disadvantaged children

More than 10,000 LEGO bricks have been donated to a Manchester children’s charity in a bid to bring fun and happiness to the city’s most disadvantaged kids.

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Manchester’s playful gesture followed a successful Easter campaign, Bring-A-Brick, which called on young LEGO enthusiasts to donate a brick from their much loved collections.

Manchester based charity, Wood Street Mission, will now be able to give out the instantly recognisable coloured blocks to struggling families in Manchester and Salford who use their services.

Roseanne Sweeney, Wood Street Mission CEO, said:  “We are delighted that LEGOLAND Discovery Centre asked for us to be a part of the Bring-A-Brick campaign.

“Quality toys are an essential part of a child’s education, however parents on low incomes can’t always afford to buy them for their children.

During  April and May, Bring-A-Brick asked LEGOLAND Discovery Centre visitors to dig deep into their own stock of trusted LEGO to add a brick to a gigantic LEGO Easter egg creation that stood high in the attraction.

The complete egg has now been dismantled and the bricks have been delivered to the charity that helps around 7,000 children and 3,000 families.

Roseanne siad: “I’m sure that the donation of bricks from LEGOLAND Discovery Centre will be very appreciated by the children we support.”

Alex Bidolak, master model maker, who oversaw the creation of the Easter Egg, and LEGOLAND Discovery Centre’s mascot Bertie handed the bricks over to Wood Street Mission’s official mascot Woody and fundraiser Sophie Bell.

Alex explained how the Easter egg campaign helped piece together the toy incentive.

“Every child should have the chance to experience the fun that LEGO® brings and that’s why we teamed up with Wood Street Mission to make this possible,” said Alex.

“The Bring-A-Brick campaign was fantastic; the supports meant that we could build a huge Easter egg and donate 10,000 bricks to charity.

“The families who are supported by Wood Street Mission also got to visit the centre.”
