David Lees murder: Appeal to find killer of Manchester man mowed down outside petrol station – £50,000 reward

By Danielle Wainwright

An appeal to find the killer of a 23-year-old man who was run down deliberately outside a Prestwich petrol station seven years ago has been launched.

David Lees was murdered in the early hours of Saturday October 28 on Middleton Road after a night out with friends when they were involved in a disturbance with a group of Asian men. His killer was never caught.

Detectives are reviewing the evidence and are offering a £50,000 reward for anyone who had information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Daniels, from the Major Incident Team, said: “No one has ever been convicted of murdering David but each year we are getting closer to finding the truth about what happened that October night.

“Cases like this are never closed and we remain absolutely determined to catch the person responsible for David’s death. His family have campaigned tirelessly for the truth and we owe it to them to get justice for their son.

“It is not right that someone responsible for murder has walked the streets free for seven years while David’s family are living a life sentence without their beloved son.”

David’s mother Anne has also released a statement speaking of her loss of her son and that he is ‘missed so much, with the passing of every day’.

“Today, David should be with us and still have his whole life to look forward to but this future was brutally ripped away from him by his murderer seven years ago,” she said.

“Our hope is that someone can do the right thing and come forward to the police so that we can finally get justice for our son.”

On the night of the murder a man was seen wearing a hooded top getting into a silver Vauxhall Vectra, registration number T313 NCR.

The car sped up to about 60 to 70mph before it drove into David who was standing in the middle of the road.

The car was then driven to the gates at Heaton Park on Middleton Road where the driver met with friends in other cars before heading to south Manchester.

Anyone with any information about the murder is asked to contact the Incident Room on 0161 856 3303 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
