‘We lose stupid points’: Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini left fuming after last-gasp Chelsea winner

By Marios Papaloizou

Following their third away defeat of the season Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has bemoaned losing ‘stupid points’.

City were beaten 2-1 after a farcical last gasp Fernando Torres winner at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

The defensive calamity that led to Chelsea’s winner infuriated Pellegrini who refused to shake hands with Jose Mourinho at the final whistle.

“We are losing stupid points, yes,” said Pellegrini.

“I don’t know if it’s the worst (defeat) but one of the worst, because I thought we played well.”

“Especially in the second half we had control of the game. We made an important mistake.”

When questioned about who was at fault for Chelsea’s winner Pellegrini was tight lipped.

“I don’t think it is the moment to say who should take the ball,” he said.

“They scored a goal and we will analyse it.”

After wild celebrations from Mourinho following his side’s late winner Pellegrini was blunt about his reasons for not shaking hands with the Portuguese manager.

“I did not want to,” he said.

“I did not expect anything different from him it is normal.”

Mourinho defended his actions claiming that it is all part of the game.

“This is the drama of the last minute,” he said.

“He (Pellegrini) lost the game in the last minute, and I have sympathy with that.

“In other countries and cultures we shake hands before the game, and that is it.

“If he was sad because of the result I understand, if he was sad because I did something wrong, I accept that too.”
