‘Positive lad with international future’: Sale Sharks boss’ delight over Ross Harrison’s contract extension

By Alan Ross

Sale Sharks have been bolstered ahead of this weekend’s match at league leaders Saracens by the news that young prop Ross Harrison and fly-half Nick Macleod have signed contract extensions at the club.

The promising 21-year-old loose-head Harrison, who has been tipped to play for England by Sale’s director of rugby Steve Diamond, has signed a three-year deal while Macleod has extended his contract by two years.

Diamond said that he hopes more players will be renewing their contracts at the club soon and was happy to have the duo pinned down.

“He (Ross) comes out of the Henry Thomas, Tommy Taylor and James Gaskell camp,” Diamond told the club website.

“He’s a really positive lad who always gives his all for the club. He’s been learning a lot off the Fridge [prop Eifion Lewis-Roberts] and we see a massive future for him.

“He’s definitely got a full representative future with England ahead of him if he carries on in the way he’s going.”

Welshman Macleod, 30, joined the Sharks in 2008 and Diamond is delighted to have the former Cardiff Blues man in his squad.

“As far as Nick is concerned, he’s a model professional […] and he’s a great player at number 10,” he said.

“He’s a really popular guy with all of the squad and he’s does a good job whenever he plays. His kicking statistics are high and we are really glad that he has agreed to stay on for another two years with us.”
