'Family left devastated' after Rochdale schoolboy, 12, dies in tragic Castleton road collision

A 12-year-old Rochdale boy died following a tragic road collision in Castleton yesterday.

Umair Hussain, Deeplish, suffered serious head injuries after the incident between a Rover and the pedestrian on the junction of Manchester Road and Bolton Road.

Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now probing the circumstances surrounding last night’s collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Hailwood said: “Our thoughts are with Umar’s family, who have understandably been left devastated following the death of their young boy in the early hours of this morning.

“We have officers supporting them as best we can at this difficult time and are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full facts around what happened last night.
