CCTV: Men posing as water board workers con woman, 92, to get into Chadderton home and steal cash

By David Aspinall

Images of two men suspected of tricking their way into a 92-year-old woman’s Chadderton home while she was gardening and stole money from her have been released.

The incident occurred at approximately 3.00pm on Tuesday when two men entered the elderly woman’s home under the pretence that they worked for the water board.

Once inside one of the perpetrators distracted the victim downstairs while his accomplice ransacked an upstairs bedroom, where he stole a small amount of cash and caused considerable damage.

Detective Constable Adam Frank said: “These men are the lowest of the low and I am keen to hear from anyone who saw them in the area on Tuesday afternoon or thinks they know who they are.

“We are determined to catch the burglars and that is why we have issued the CCTV images of the suspects – please take a good look and if you recognise either of the men, please contact us.

“I also want to remind residents not to let any strangers into your home without checking for identification and if you have any concerns call the police.”

Both offenders are described as white males, between the ages of 40 to 50 and with a fat stocky build and bald heads.

The first man was wearing a dark long sleeved jacket, dark t-shirt with a white horizontal emblem on the chest and light coloured trousers.

The second man was wearing a peaked hat, white long sleeved top, dark trousers and white trainers.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8825, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
