Van Gaal says NO transfer target can resist lure of Man Utd as club eye more names before Monday deadline

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is confident with better build up play – and yet more signings before the transfer window slams shut on Monday – that his new team can slowly make their mark.

A dismal 4-0 drubbing at the hands of League One team MK Dons on Tuesday after a largely uninspiring 1-1 draw away at Sunderland last weekend has left Van Gaal defending United for the last few days.

The record signing of Angel Di Maria has been a high for any beleaguered United fans this week though there’s more of where that came from says Dutchman Van Gaal.

“I had a conversation with the players and I said maybe after this weekend we shall have another group, because players shall go away and others shall come in,” the 63-year-old said at Thursday’s unveiling of Di Maria.

“We know already in advance what players we want and sometimes you can have them but sometimes no.

“It is also dependent on the club – more the club than the players, because the players want to come, all (of them).”

Van Gaal, whose side face promoted Burnley at Turf Moor in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, then turned his attentions to providing an analysis of the team’s performances so far this season.

“I think that we have no problem when the opponent has the ball because we have defended very well.

“Our problem is when we have the ball and have to build up the play and that we have to improve.

“I don’t think our defence is weak. Our build-up is still not good enough. We shall improve that and that will take time.”
