The Chancellor George Osborne has today confirmed that the Government has given the green light to two major infrastructure projects that will benefit Manchester.
Delivering his autumn statement in the Commons just a few minutes ago, Mr Osborne said that money would be available for the electrification of the trans-Pennine Manchester to Leeds railway line and a new link road which would ease access to Manchester Airport.
The projects are part of the Government's ambitious £30bn investment programme in infrastructure.
The new dual carriageway will link the M56 at Manchester airport to the A6 south of Stockport while the electrification of the railway line will not only shorten journey times but help free up capacity.
Mr Osborne said funds would be available for around 40, with the cash due to be drawn from big British pension funds and Chinese investment.
