Denis Law has joined fellow club legends Sir Bobby Charlton and Bryan Robson in being appointed an official Manchester United ambassador.

The Scot, who scored 237 goals for United, will promote the club’s community work and represent it at functions and events.

And Law revealed he was honoured to be appointed to the role and to join such esteemed company.

"I'm delighted and honoured," he said. "The club has changed a lot since my day, but the support and passion of the fans has remained the same and I'm looking forward to meeting them as part of my new role."

Law moved to Old Trafford 50 years ago this season for a record fee at the time of £115,000 and quickly became a fans favourite.

He helped the Reds to an FA Cup win and two league titles, as well as collecting the 1964 European Footballer of the Year award.

He is widely regarded as one of the finest players to grace the turf at Old Trafford, making him an ideal choice for the role.

Manchester United chief executive David Gill was full of praise of Law and excited to begin working with him.

"Denis Law is one of the greatest strikers ever to have played the game and his place in club folklore is assured,” said Gill.

"It is great news that Denis has agreed to become and ambassador for United.

“He's our first ever winner of the Ballon D'Or and a man of great integrity and humour."
