Dunn ‘speechless’ after poor Oldham slump to third consecutive defeat at Crewe

With the pressure mounting on David Dunn after a 1-0 defeat away to bottom side Crewe, the Oldham manager says his side should shoulder the blame for another dismal performance.

Adam King’s first half strike secured Crewe three home points for just the second time this season, with Latics managing just one shot on target.

Dunn was left questioning his players’ desire, with his side slipping back into the relegation zone after what he called an indefensible performance.

“I’m a little bit speechless if I’m being honest, because I’ve said that much in the dressing room,” said Dunn.

“In life you have got to stand up and be counted, and be responsible for your own performance. Quite honestly, I can’t really defend it.

“The body language, the desire – I’m not seeing enough of it at the moment. Crewe scrapped for absolutely everything and I’m not sure we did.

“The biggest thing for me is desire: ‘does it hurt enough to get beat on a Saturday?’ I’m not sure it does.”

Defeat at Gresty Road saw Oldham throw away their unbeaten away record, and have now lost three in a row having won the same amount in the league all season.

With a cup tie against Sheffield United on Saturday, Dunn says he will not be afraid to ring the changes and show those underperforming that their place is not guaranteed.

“I’m sure there will be a lot of changes,” said the 35-year-old.

“Of course this result has hurt me. We are working our socks off trying to put things right and it’s very difficult, because I feel let down at times.

“We have got to dust ourselves down and go again like I keep saying.”
