VIDEO: Street brawl brings chaos to Urmston street as melee erupts in middle of day

Shocking footage of a group of youths attacking and stamping on a drunken man in the middle of a busy road has been released by Greater Manchester Police.

Police have released CCTV footage of the incident, which occurred on Flixton Road, Urmston, at around 7.30pm on April 14.

The footage shows a man approach the youths, before he is attacked and falls to the ground in the middle of the road as cars narrowly avoid them.

The man is hit repeatedly while he is downed, while another man, who appears not to have been involved initially but then attempts to intervene, is also assaulted by members of the group.

Following the incident, a 37-year-old man was arrested and charged with affray, and police are now attempting to identify the group of youths involved.

Describing the footage, Pc Clare Robinson said: “While one man appears to initially orchestrate the incident, later footage shows him clearly unsteady on his feet due to being heavily intoxicated, thus making him vulnerable and an easy target for a large group.

“He is fortunate not to have been seriously injured.

“The fight spilled into the street and a number of those involved were a hair’s breadth away from getting mown down by passing motorists.

“They have not given a second thought to the alarm and distress this caused to those nearby and I want the public’s help to identify all involved.”

Anyone who recognises someone from the footage, or has information about the incident, should call the police on 0161 856 7655 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
