Wigan partygoer stabbed with kitchen knife in ‘targeted’ attack as offender flees on mountain bike

By Tim Hyde

A 24-year-old man was stabbed with a kitchen knife on Saturday in Wigan after a night out before the offender fled on a mountain bike.

The incident occurred at around 10.45pm on Kingsley Ave in Worsley, Mesnes, when the victim was approached by a man who attacked him.

The offender then fled and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment on injuries to his head and body after being approached by a man equipped with a large kitchen knife.

Detective Sergeant Derek Thomas, based at Wigan Police Station, said: “We believe the attack was targeted.

“It may have been related to a disturbance that occurred in the same street about 15 minutes earlier.  This will form part of our investigation and enquiries are continuing.

“This was a violent attack that has left a man with serious injuries and in a lot of pain. We are relying on members of the public who may have seen what happened to come forward.

“If you were in or around the area at the time and believe you may have witnessed the incident, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Fortunately the victim’s injuries are not life threatening and he has described the attacker as in his 30s or 40s, of slim to medium build with short light coloured hair wearing dark clothing.

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
