Disabled Wigan man heartbroken after baby rabbits stamped to death in ‘savage and sickening’ attack

By Danielle Wainwright

A disabled Wigan man has been left heartbroken after his three baby rabbits were stamped to death in a ‘sickening attack’ on Sunday.

The man who had recently suffered a stroke and cared for the two-week-old rabbits on his allotment behind Warrington Road and Poolstock Lane was devastated to find them dead on Monday morning.

The hutch had been trashed and the adult rabbits he kept had also been stamped on but survived the attack.

This is the second attack on the plot this month with the plot set on fire between Friday October 18 and Friday October 25.

Police Constable Wendy Potter said: “We will do all we can to find out who carried out the savage act of killing these baby rabbits, but we would also want to ask why.

“The man is devastated by these events, which I have no doubt will sicken members of our community.

“These two incidents have left this man feeling even more vulnerable and he is starting to wonder whether he is being targeted for some reason.

“He cannot understand why this is happening to him, and we have been both trying to support him and make him feel safe, as well as getting to the bottom of what has happened.”

Police have launched an investigation into the attacks and are appealing to the public for information.

Anyone with any information should call police on 0161 856 7124 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
