‘They like the way we play’: Van Gaal thanks loyal Man Utd fans despite boring tag

Louis van Gaal insists his Manchester United side always seek to entertain ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils sit fourth in the table but have endured a difficult week following a lacklustre display in the goalless Manchester derby before being knocked-out of the Capital One Cup in midweek by Middlesbrough on penalties.

Performances on the pitch this season have continued to be criticised by pundits but the United boss claims his side are getting better with each game.

“We are improving a lot, but it is a process,” said the Dutchman.

“Last year we had 13 points from 10 games and now we have 20 points out of 10. We were in the last 16 of the Capital One Cup and in the Champions League. Last year it was not like this.”

Furthermore, Van Gaal dismissed claims his side are not entertaining and insists the fans are satisfied with the style of football the team is playing.

“I think Manchester United is always entertaining. I read also the papers and I see it [United’s 0-0 Capital One Cup draw with Middlesbrough] was boring, but I don’t think there are more spectators in another stadium than this ground.

“In spite of the defeat, when we were going to our dressing room, they were applauding. I have said that also last year, once or twice.

“That is not normal, so they like the way we have played.”

The Red Devils are without injured trio Antonio Valencia, Memphis Depay and James Wilson for the trip to Selhurst Park- a ground which United have not lost at since 1994.

Ashley Young could feature after he returned to the side against Middlesbrough on Wednesday while Van Gaal faces a tough decision over whether to drop under-firing captain Wayne Rooney.
