‘I rescued the world’: Tyson Fury talks Klitschko, jam sandwiches and Aerosmith

Tyson Fury says he’s living the dream after becoming the heavyweight champion of the world – and the Manchester man is probably celebrating right now by eating a jam sandwich.

The Wythenshawe fighter shocked the world by defeating Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday night in Dusseldorf with a unanimous points decision.

And after addressing the media at Bolton’s Macron Stadium on Monday, he told MM that he’s not taking a rest from thinking about boxing for the time being.

“I just want to go home, get my feet up, put the television on, and have a jam sandwich,” said Fury.

“All that I know and that I can talk about is that I’m the number one heavyweight on the planet.

“I beat the guy who couldn’t be beaten for so many years, and everybody thought he was unbeatable, and I went over there and I’ve done the unthinkable.

“I’m not thinking about anything at the moment, I’m just living the dream.”

Fury also praised the strength in depth that has seen Manchester emerge as the hotbed of world boxing.

Allied to Fury’s triumph, Manchester now has four world champions, but the 27-year-old would not be drawn on whether he would fight in his home city in the future.

“I’m not prepared to talk about future venues and future fights and boxing because I’m not thinking about that at the minute.

“There are a few world champions now up here – me, Anthony Crolla, Terry Flanagan, Scott Quigg, and if I’ve missed anybody out then I apologise, but I don’t think I have.

“That’s four world champions we have, we’re a big boxing city, and I think we’re the leading boxing city in the world with the most world champions.”

Fury celebrated in unconventional style on Saturday night, when he launched into the Aerosmith classic “I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing” – and the 6ft 8in fighter hinted there could be more to come.

“I have been thinking of a Christmas number one! We’ve got to have a sit down with my team, with me going into a singing career.

“Give me a rating out of 10! It’s got to be 10 – I still had the energy for a big vocal after a twelve-round fight!

“It wasn’t just a song I picked out of my mind, it was specially planned, the song out of Armageddon.

“I rescued the world that night just like they did in the film.”
