Pregnant woman injured by rocks dropped off Hyde bridge by ‘mindless’ yobs

A heavily-pregnant woman was injured when her car windscreen was shattered by stones dropped by yobs from a nearby bridge this week.

The woman, who is 35-weeks pregnant, was travelling in the passenger of the vehicle when two large stones smashed through the glass and hit her, causing cuts and bruises.

However, Police have said it is a ‘miracle’ neither she, nor her unborn child were more severely injured.

The incident took place around 3pm on Tuesday October 28 at junction three of the M67 eastbound in Hyde and Police are now appealing to anyone who has information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Steve Hall said: “This might have seemed like a ‘good laugh’ at the time, but I can assure them this is no laughing matter and as a result of their mindless stupidity a woman was injured.

“The fact that shards of glass were flying everywhere means it is a miracle neither she, the driver nor her unborn child were more severely injured.”

He also highlighted the risk of the ‘thoughtless actions’ to other drivers on the road at the time, saying that ‘the consequences could have been far-reaching indeed.’

He said: “For those reasons we need to find the offenders and make them see just how serious this could have been. I would appeal to anyone who has information about this incident to come forward, and would even ask the offenders themselves to do the right thing and hand themselves in.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9482 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
