Bury have a ‘feel good factor’ at the JD Stadium, says Flitcroft

Bury manager David Flitcroft is hoping the ‘feel good factor’ at the JD Stadium will help the Shakers overcome Cambridge United on Saturday.

The Greater Manchester side go into the game with the second best home record in the league, with six wins from seven outings.

That record will undoubtedly give Flitcroft’s men a boost after a difficult period with no wins in their last four games on the road.

“There’s a real feel good factor when we’re at the JD Stadium so I can’t wait for Saturday,” said the former Barnsley boss.

“I look forward to putting a team out at home where they [the players] have been fantastic and the fans have too.”

Flitcroft has bemoaned a lack of squad depth in the past and will undoubtedly have been disappointed with the news that striker Clive Platt retired this week.

The veteran forward, 37, made more than 600 career appearances across a 19 year playing career and joined the Shakers last January.

Platt suffered a calf injury during pre-season and despite Flitcroft’s hopes that he would soon return to first team action he has decided to hang up his boots.

The former Rochdale forward is not the only departure from the JD Stadium this week as Duane Holmes has been recalled by Huddersfield.

Holmes had been on loan and made seven appearances, all off the bench, during his time with the Shakers.

Star defender Nathan Cameron has ended speculation about a move away from the club in January however, signing a three-year contract extension.

Keeping the 22-year-old, who has played 48 times for the club, demonstrates the club’s ambition and that was one of the main attractions for the returning Tom Kennedy.

“The set up and the ambition is Championship in the making, League One is a tough league you’ve got to fight as well as play football,” he said.

“We’re a top footballing side and I honestly believe that if we keep giving 100 per cent and keep playing the football the boys have been – promotion is achievable.”
