The £10 challenge: Wooden ducks, African art and world history… Facebook style

By Alex Morrisey

Money doesn’t stretch far these days, but don’t worry MM has been out and about in search of the best way to spend £10 in Manchester this weekend.

Why not embrace the wet weather and buy yourself not one, but two (!) wooden ducks for your patio from Manchester Markets in Piccadilly Gardens, you might not be able to enjoy outside this autumn  but they will love it.

If it’s you want to ‘decorate’ yourself, you can get your ear pierced at The Studio in Affleck’s palace on Saturday (with one of their £5 off flyers) and it even includes the jewellery to go with it.

Maybe you aren’t interested in garden furniture and are happy with your ears as they are – so instead head to Urban Outfitters in the Arndale Centre and buy ‘A history of the world according to Facebook’.

It takes you from the beginning of the universe right through to the death of Osama Bin Laden in the familiar form of the Facebook news feed so sit down, relax and learn lots.

Are you the arty type? If so Manchester is the place to be. It’s the last weekend of the We Face Forward exhibition, a colourful array of art from West Africa in the Whitworth Gallery.

It is free entry but to keep refreshed head to Chocolate Ape in the Northern Quarter first where you can buy eight cans of American retro pop from vanilla cola to root beer.

Colourful pop and colourful art will make for a great afternoon.

Whatever you plan to do MM hope you can still enjoy yourself this weekend with just £10.
