Sale singer-songwriter Daley returns for Manchester gig at Matt and Phred’s following world tour with Gorillaz

A singer-songwriter from Sale will perform his first gig in Manchester on Sunday.

Gareth Daly – better known as ‘Daley’ – will be treading the boards at Matt and Phred’s jazz club in front of fans (and no doubt a few friends) this weekend.

The 21-year-old musician’s career has rocketed since he was spotted by BBC Introducing back in 2009. With such positive exposure, Daley has gone on to do gigs in London, travel around the world, and get a number 37 hit in collaboration with British band, Gorillaz.

Now with life-changing experiences and a nomination for the BBC Sound of 2011 poll under his belt, the soul artist is excited to return to his hometown as a performer.

“There will be some familiar faces in the crowd, with it being my first gig in Manchester,” he tells Mancunian Matters.

“I am looking forward to meeting people who have been listening to my music.

“I have always represented Manchester, but to be there will be a good feeling.”

As well as his Manchester debut, Daley – whose influences include the likes of Prince and Imogen Heap – is also set to release his first mixed-tape, ‘Those Who Wait’, at the start of next month.

“I am finishing off my album and people have been waiting for a while since my collaboration with Gorillaz,” he says.

“I just wanted to put something out there, a backstory for the album, which shows my musical journey.

“The title song ‘Those Who Wait’ has a double-barrelled meaning – how I am glad I took time to do things, but also how good things come to those who wait.”

From bedroom musician to emerging star, Daley is living proof of how ambition and determination can lead to success.

Sure to follow in the footsteps of Sound of 2011 winner Jessie J, it won’t be long before Sale’s talent will be headlining his very own tour.

Daley will be performing at Matt and Phred’s, alongside AKS, Sasha Pannu, Rio, Shakka and KT Forrester from 7pm on Sunday 31st July.
