What’s On in Manchester: New Year’s Eve round-up

By Paddy von Behr

New Year’s Eve is fast-approaching and, for many of us, that signals an evening of indecision and, ultimately, disappointment – but this year is different.

Manchester has a mind-blowing variety of events on offer for NYE 2012 and whether you want to eat good food or dance through to 2013, here are some ideas.

Bella Italia

If you fancy eating out this year, you can head to one of Manchester’s four locations – Deansgate, Salford Quays, Piccadilly and Arndale Centre – for a bargain bite.

Bella Italia is offering up a NYE menu of three courses for just £19.95 per person, served with their “famous festive cheer.”

This Times Square-themed event, ‘New York, New York’, has all sorts to keep you entertained into 2013 at the Portland Street restaurant.

A four course meal with coffee and petit fours for £45 will set you up for the night, as you enjoy live rat pack music, followed by a DJ into the early hours.

Sabor do Brasil

Or why not try something a bit different to celebrate the end of 2012, in the form of Altricham’s authentic Brazilian Churrascaria?

Enjoy all kinds of meat sliced onto your plate straight from a spit, as well as a plentiful salad bar and a round or two of capirinhas.

Something a little different

The Comedy Store

Head down to the Deansgate locks for a dose of NYE comedy to laugh out the year, with two shows to choose from.

There’s the 6pm show – five comedians for £20 – or the later 9pm show – five comedians, live band and DJ – for £30, and party into 2013.

Pitcher and Piano

Also in Deansgate, the Pitcher and Piano is putting on a Moulin Rouge-themed burlesque night, in association with Francis House Children’s Hospice.

Capital FM DJ Rob Ellis will be providing the music through to midnight, so get down there in good time to enjoy the show.

All Bar One

The Kings Street venue will be providing VIP drinks, a four course dinner, live music, DJs and a casino, all in aid of The Christie.

Book in advance to guarantee your ticket and party until two in the morning, when you’ll be offered free transport home – every little helps!

Club Nights

Funkademia @ Mint Lounge

Funkademia is celebrating its 17th NYE party by taking over Mint Lounge for a huge Northern Quarter party.

Tickets have sold out every year and over half have gone for this year’s event already so hurry up and grab one to avoid missing out.

After taking part in Sound Control’s first ever NYE party, HIT&RUN are taking over all three floors this year for “one of, if not the most value for money rave in the city.”

With more of the line-up still to be announced, names like Randall and Commodo are already confirmed for the night – it’s going to be huge.

Club Elysee

Head down to Lloyd Street, where Club Elysee is hosting BBC 1XTRA’s NYE all-nighter, to dance through to 2013 and until 6am.

Enjoy a champagne reception, free CD giveaways, a variety of music and a ‘Sexy & Stylish’ dress code – book your tickets now to avoid missing out.

Tiger Tiger

Head to Tiger Tiger for a huge party and the chance to rub shoulders with a couple of famous mancunian faces.

Shaun Ryder and Bez from The Happy Mondays will be there, as well as Capital FM’s Rob Ellis – there’s a £5 discount for booking in advance so hurry up.

Warehouse Project

There is a huge line up of debstep, house and techno music at Manchester’s best venue, including Annie Mac, Felix Da Housecat and Rudimental.

Self-labelled the “biggest party in the north”, this really isn’t one to miss and new tickets are expected to be released shortly, so stay tuned.

Vermilion & Cinnabar

For something a little different, it’s Hulme Hall Lane for Vermilion & Cinnabar’s 80s-themed NYE bash, with live break dancers, fancy dress, arcade machines and more.

There’s even complementary champagne and an opulent seven course meal on offer if you’re hungry – get your tickets booked now.
