A man is set to appear in court accused of attempting to murder a homeless man in Whitworth Park, Manchester – who remains in hospital almost four months after the horrific attack.

Anthony Ellis, 24, of Hatchley Street, Chorlton on Medloc, was charged with attempted murder after the 41-year-old man was found with serious head injuries at around 8.50pm on September 11 2012.

The incident baffled investigators during the early stages, but after scanning hours of surrounding CCTV they were able to identify a suspect, which lead to the eventual charging of Ellis.

He is due before Manchester City Magistrates’ Court today.

The victim was taken to hospital and heavily sedated. While he has stabilised, he remains in Salford Royal Hospital.
