Motor expert Quentin Willson brings fuel-saving tips to Manchester Arndale

By Kathryn Cummings

Quentin Willson and Shell FuelSave experts hit Manchester Arndale last weekend, as part of the national roadshow to help Britain cut their motoring costs.

The motoring journalist and fuel saving expert, shared his wisdom with Manchester drivers on how they can save fuel and money in a fun and interactive way, with entertainment and games for the children.

He said: “I wanted to help Manchester drivers cut their monthly fuel bills. Everyone thinks saving fuel is hard but by using Shell FuelSave and making some small changes to your driving habits, I’ll show that fuel-sipping really is easy.

“I love teaching Britain to save fuel.”

Quentin described his two days in Manchester as brilliant, and stressed just how friendly he thought Mancunians were.

He said: “I had a great time at the roadshow in Manchester, everyone was generally interested, more so than the other cities I have been to.

“I noticed women in Manchester knew more about fuel saving than the men, we’ve got a lot of work to do with the male population.”

Quentin was particularly taken with one Mancunian, Michelle Sigley, 27, who he described as lovely and was desperate to find ways to save her petrol.

Michelle, who spends a lot on fuel looking after her disabled mum, completed Saturday’s interactive car quiz to win £200 of free fuel in a record-busting 16 seconds.

Meeting Quentin was the highlight for her, she will even be putting some of his tips into practice by changing up into a higher gear when necessary driving on the motorway.

She said: “I feel that saving fuel in this tough economic climate is really important and I believe that everyone could save money this way.

“I found Quentin and the Shell FuelSave team incredibly helpful and inspiring.”

Over the weekend the fuel saving team was on the hunt to find four everyday drivers who are in desperate need of their fuel saving expertise, Michelle is one of those drivers who could be joining Quentin’s special masterclass with a chance to win a year’s supply of free fuel worth £3,650.

The winning four will also receive extensive training from a team of Shell scientists and fuel economy experts to help turn them and their local community into a team of top fuel savers.

Melanie Lane, General Manager of Shell Retail said: “Shell is passionate about helping motorists get the most out of their fuel, so hitting the road to give drivers first-hand expert advice on how to be more fuel efficient is a natural step for us.

“We want to give as many people as possible the chance to learn how simple it can be to save fuel and money.”

The Shell FuelSave roadshows are the latest part of an on-going Shell campaign to promote fuel efficiency, it follows last year’s launch of Shell FuelSave Unleaded and Diesel, two fuels which have been specially designed to help drivers save up to 1 litre per tank at no extra cost.

On Saturday, October 15 the team will be issuing a call to action to drivers across Britain to make history and represent their nation by setting the first ever Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest Fuel Efficiency Masterclass’, for more information visit www.shell.co.uk/fuelsave
