Manchester commuters see traffic chaos following snowfall, with trains delayed, M62 queues and Snake Pass closed

Commuters are experiencing traffic chaos and road closure in and out of Manchester this morning, following bad weather throughout the night.

Snow fell in many areas across the city, and Snake Pass (the A57), which connects Manchester with Sheffield, was forced to close this morning.

Long delays were seen on the M62 as two vehicles broke down on the eastbound carriageway, blocking both lanes. The vehicles broke down between Rishworth and Ainley Top, leaving traffic chaos stretching back towards Junction 20, at Oldham.

Even rail passengers didn’t escape the problems, as trains from Huddersfield into Manchester Victoria reported delays of at least 30 minutes.

There are further reports emerging of some commuters seeing cancellations of their trains, possibly on the Marple route.
