Cold-snap continues: Second day of misery for Manchester commuters, with train delays and M62 jams

By Mancunian Matters staff

Manchester commuters faced a second day of traffic chaos as more bad weather caused delays to car journeys and trains to be cancelled this morning.

Thousands of motorists were trapped on the M62 this morning as many vehicles became stuck on the icy carriageway.

There were long delays in both directions between Leeds and Manchester, and while traffic remains slow on the M62 eastbound, they are moving slightly quicker westbound now after a rolling block was cleared.

Many train passengers were left furious after numerous trains were cancelled or saw long delays this morning, including trains from Southport to Manchester and Clitheroe to Manchester Victoria.

One disgruntled passenger, Robert Hailsworth, said: “It’s the second time I’ve been late in as many days. I don’t know what I’m paying for my ticket for if I’m not going to make it into work.

“There were three trains-worth of people waiting by the time we could go – and no reason given for it, no apologies, nothing. It’s a disgrace.”
