By Dean Wilkins

A teenage robber is being charged with a spree of offences targeting Oldham Metrolink passengers near Mumps station.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with four counts of robbery and was due before Oldham Magistrates Court yesterday.

A 16-year-old arrested on suspicion of robbery was bailed until July 18 after four people were attacked between the tram stop and Hamilton Street.

Inspector Paul Walker said: “The expanded Metrolink service has been put in place for the benefit of the people of Oldham and operations such as this show our commitment to deter criminals and help keep users of the service safe.

“We are working closely with Transport for Greater Manchester and Oldham Council, as we have been since the opening of the Oldham line.”
