Comic book fans were in good spirits on Wednesday as northern comic chain ‘Travelling Man’ celebrated its 20th anniversary with the Manchester branch going a little further to commemorate the milestone.
All four branches in Manchester, York, Newcastle and its original chain in Leeds slashed their entire stock by 20%, a percent for each year in business.
However, Manchester’s chain included a few special features in addition to the company’s price cuts.
Snacks and cakes were laid out for customers, prizes were hidden around the store and even an in-store band treated those present to some live music.
Local musicians John Thorne, from Manchester band ‘Lamb’, and guitarist Stuart McAllan played an intimate set for those in the shop at around 2pm.
Store manager, Haroon, was delighted by the support the anniversary event had got.
“I wanted to create a more special and party-like atmosphere. Something a bit extra for our customers, to give them something back for their loyalty and business.”
“We hope that both our regulars and occasional customers feel we appreciate them very much,” he said.
One customer commented: “My wife and kids cannot wait to come here whenever we go to Manchester. I’ve moved my subscription here because it’s so friendly.”
This personal touch has not gone unnoticed, with the company being nominated for a prestigious Eisner Comic Industry award.
Haroon added: “We put our success down to hard work and dedication, and making sure of a friendly and intimate atmosphere at all times.”
