CCTV footage released: Terrifying machete robbery leaves Oldham Post Office staff scared to work

By Dean Wilkins

CCTV images of a terrified shopkeeper being held at knifepoint by a masked robber are being released by Greater Manchester Police.

A pair of robbers targeted High Crompton Post Office, Thornham Road, Oldham, on the evening of August 24 and threatened staff to hand over cash.

The masked men pulled up outside in a black Ford Focus and one threw a shop assistant to the floor – threatening him with a vicious machete – while his accomplice forced a petrified woman behind the counter to give him money from the till.

The robbers then left and although no-one was injured, the horrific ordeal has left shop workers scared to return to work.

Detective Constable Emily Palmer, of Oldham CID, said: “Anyone viewing the CCTV images will share our dismay at the level of violence metered out by these robbers.

“Anyone going to work in a local shop should never be subjected to this kind of ordeal but I can reassure the victims that we are confident that we will catch up with these offenders.

“I would ask people to take a good close look at the CCTV pictures and let us know if you recognise these males.”

One of the robbers was described as 5ft 7″ to 5ft 8″, medium build, wearing a black three-quarter length coat with a white design on the upper left sleeve and has his face covered with tights over a balaclava.
