A young dad has admitted to killing his six-week-old son at a trial in Manchester today.

Shakeel Hussain, 25, formerly of Balcary Grove, Bolton, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his new-born boy Mohammed Ismail Malik.

Hussain had previously pleaded not guilty to murder – the case at Manchester Crown Court today was adjourned and the defendant was remanded in custody until February 28 when he is due to be sentenced following a psychological report.

Mohammed’s mother Rabeel Malik was previously cleared after being charged with causing or allowing the death of a child.

Emergency services were called to the couple’s home on January 5 after reports and the youngster was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital before being transferred to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital where he died two days later.
