AS THE RESULTS begin to come in, the Conservatives have recorded an early 8% swing in the Labour heartlands of the North East.
If such a swing continues, the BBC predicts that Labour seats such as Chorley, Derby North and Alistair Darling’s Edinburgh would all turn blue.
Overall this would lead to a 58 seat Tory majority on 354 to Labour’s 216, going against early exit poll estimates of a hung parliament.
More to appear later.
